I'm Going Into Withdrawal

Okay, it is officially summer here in my world (whether-wise at least) and I have already had two scrumptious watermelons this year.  This means I should be able to find a nice watermelon every single time I go shopping.  It has been like a week since I've had any.  I went grocery shopping yesterday with my heart set on watermelon.  They didn't have any!  How is that possible?  You can't tease me with two perfect watermelons and then stop selling them.  It's cruel!  I thought for sure I had just missed them, so I did a slow, thorough search through the produce section a second and third time.  As if they could have hidden those humongous suckers somewhere. I started off feeling disappointed and then as the dire consequences of being melon-less sunk in I started getting angry.  Where are the watermelons?!  Is some produce worker with an entreprenurial spirit hording them to sell out of the back of a pickup behind the store?  I got home from a hot sweaty walk and my body was screaming "Feed me watermelon!"  But did I have any to give it?  Noooo!  It's all very, very sad.

  1. Simply LOOKING at that luscious picture of watermelon has my mouth watering. MUST. HAVE! Let's do a watermelon dance to bring them back.

  2. Here, you can have mine. Darling wife keeps trying to feed it to me. Ugh. ;-)

When I wanted to find clementines, I couldn't find them ANYWHERE around here. I could find bushels of them in Cleveland, but not in Florida.

  3. Spleeness - *dance, dance, dance* Are they here yet?

Marvin - Wow, your wife is more generous than me. I don't like to share my watermelon with my DH! I love clementines too! I wish they could be bought in smaller quantities though - sometimes I can't eat them fast enough and some go bad or get all dried out.

  4. I have only bought one perfect watermelon in my life. Every other watermelon I've bought since then pales in comparision and I can't figure out how I picked the perfect one. So now I wander around the grocery store thumping watermelons and tilting my head to the side and saying "Mmmmm, I don't think so" like a crazy person.

  5. Miss Yvonne - It can be pretty annoying when you can't tell if a watermelon is good or not! I do know that you should never buy one that does NOT have the pale yellow spot on it. If it has that you know it ripened in the sun the way it was supposed to, but if it is green all the way around that means they picked it before it was ready.
